Antique & Capiz governors eye reelection


ILOILO CITY — Governors Rhodora “Dodod” Cadiao of Antique province and Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras II of Capiz province are seeking reelection.

Cadiao and Contreras filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) before the provincial office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in San Jose de Buenavista town and Roxas City respectively.

Cadiao is running for her third and last term as governor under the National Unity Party (NUP), wherein she also serves as Antique provincial chair.

Contreras is running for his second gubernatorial term under the ruling party’s PDP-Laban (Cusi wing) after he won as an independent candidate in May 2019 when he then bolted from the Liberal Party (LP).

Cadiao’s running-mate and incumbent Vice Governor Edgar Denosta also filed his COC.

Antonio Legarda Jr., the brother of incumbent Antique Rep. Loren Legarda, also filed his COC. He is set to replace Rep. Loren, who is running again for senator.

On the other hand, joining the Contreras alliance in Capiz province are former governor Jose Borda and Mayor Leodegario Labao Jr. of Mambusao town. Borda is running for the congressional seat for Capiz 1st District while Labao for Capiz 2nd District.
