Thanks to the Netflix series “Squid Game,” actress and model Jung Ho-yeon has become a social media phenomenon eclipsing Song Hye-kyo on the number of Instagram followers.
Jung Ho-yeon plays the role of North Korean defector and player No. 067 Kang Sae-byeok who joins the deadly games for her family.
“Squid Game” is her first project as an actress after debuting as a fashion model.
Since the release of “Squid Game” on Netflix last Sept. 17, Jung Ho-yeon’s Instagram followers have exploded in numbers.
According to Social Blade, Jung Ho-yeon’s Instagram followers grew from 430,562 on Sept. 18 to 12,034,944 by Oct. 3, or an increase of a whopping 11.6 million followers in two weeks. As of writing, she has 12,681,687 followers on Instagram.
She added a daily average of 377,845 followers, according to Social Blade. She has 932 posts on Instagram (although she deleted 36 posts since Sept. 18).
Jung Ho-yeon follows 532 people on Instagram including co-stars Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo, who both started their own Instagram accounts on Oct. 2.
With 12.6 million followers, Jung Ho-yeon has surpassed popular Korean actress Song Hye-kyo who has 12,010,513 followers as of writing.
Korean media outlet Wikitree reported that with this, Jung Ho-yeon is now the second most followed Korean actress on Instagram after Lee Sung-kyung, who starred in the Korean dramas “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo,” “Dr. Romantic 2” and “Cheese in the Trap.”
