CEBU CITY — After his lopsided loss in the 2019 elections, actor and businessman Richard Yap will once again contend for a congressional seat in the Cebu City North District.
It was Yap's wife Melody who filed the actor's certificate of candidacy on Sunday, October 3, as he is still currently in a lock-in taping.
The filing of Yap's COC was confirmed by election officer Omar Sharif Dilangalen Mamalinta of the Commission on Elections-Cebu City.
Yap rose to fame when he played the role of Sir Chief in ABS-CBN's morning teleserye Please Be Careful With My Heart opposite Jodi Sta. Maria.
Yap's stature in the showbiz industry proved not enough to catapult him to the House of Representatives when he lost big to the formidable Raul del Mar.
Del Mar, who died last November 2020, garnered 134,816 votes while Yap could only muster 81,167 votes.
It remained unknown yet who will be Yap's opponent in next year's elections but there had been reports that Del Mar's daughter Cutie will be vying for the post.
A registered voter of Barangay Apas, Cebu City, Yap is running as an independent candidate after being part of the Barug-PDP-Laban party in the last elections.
