Former QC mayor Adelina Rodriguez passes away


Former Quezon City Mayor Adelina-Santos Rodriguez passed away on Sept. 30. She was 101.

The Quezon City government announced her death on Saturday, Oct. 2.

“The local government of Quezon City and I join the family of Mayor Adelina Rodriguez in celebrating her life and leadership. QCitizens also pay tribute and offer condolences to her family,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement.

Rodriguez was the sixth city mayor from 1976-1986.

She prioritized healthcare and established health centers across the city, and was also progressive in addressing the needs of many families by promoting family planning and birth control.

She also instructed the installment of the Manuel Quezon monument.

Rodriguez established an economic development council to encourage more businesses, jobs, investments, and livelihood in the city.

She was recognized as the city’s Tandang Sora awardee in 2016 for embodying the ideals and strong traits of the Filipina revolutionary, Melchora Aquino.

The award was also given to her for "sustaining the stability and progress of the city even during the martial law years and for preserving the status of Quezon City as the then capital city of the Philippines.”
