The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Friday, Oct. 1, launched the Tulong Trabaho Scholarship Program.
In a statement, the agency said, more than 900 beneficiaries will undergo training programs to be implemented by 23 Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) across NCR.
These beneficiaries, TESDA said, are displaced workers, repatriated OFWs, out-of-school youths, and employed individuals who are in need of "upskilling to expand their capabilities and opportunities at work."
TESDA-NCR took advantage of the program to address the immediate skills needs of the Filipino people, especially those who are greatly affected by the pandemic.
"This scholarship program will be utilized to provide training for in-demand, as well as new and emerging skills – the needed skills to produce workforces that are highly competent and can adapt to this rapidly evolving work structure," it said.
"As TESDA shifts from being supply-driven to being demand-driven, the Tulong Trabaho Scholarship Program reinforces this initiative by allowing an ease of TVET implementation," added TESDA.
TESDA Director General, Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña, meantime, expressed his gratitude to Senator Joel Villanueva, the Author of the Tulong Trabaho Act – R.A. 11230.
He said that the passage of this law enables TESDA "to further expand its services, reaching more of our Kababayans."
TESDA-NCR, aside from implementing the Tulong Trabaho Program with its partner TVIs, is currently working with industries and associations under the priority sectors of NCR to develop industry-led training programs and ensure job opportunities after the training, which is the main purpose of the Tulong Trabaho Act.
