Vice President Leni Robredo's camp confirmed on Friday, Oct. 1 that she indeed went to Camaines Sur to transfer her voter registration.
However, it was a only "quick trip" as Robredo is already back in Metro Manila, Office of the Vice President (OVP) spokesperson, lawyer Barry Gutierrez bared in a statement.
According to Gutierrez, Robredo left for Camarines Sur on Thursday so she may change her voter registration from Naga City to the municipality of Magarao.
“Yes, she did so, at the advice of her lawyers who wanted consistency in her actual residence ngayon (actually current residence),” he said of Robredo, chairperson of the erstwhile ruling Liberal Party (LP).
Sightings of Robredo Thursday in Magarao, which inevitably reached social media, gave others the impression just she was not running for president in May 2022 after all, despite gaining the endorsement of opposition force 1Sambayan.
The lady official had earlier floated the possibility of running for provincial governor in case she didn't vie for the Palace seat.
But Gutierrez said Robredo is already back from the province.
More importantly, he also noted that Robredo has not made a decision yet regarding the 2022 elections, and that the transfer of voter registration does not mean she has already decided to run for Camarines Sur governor instead.
“She’s been very clear that insofar as the possibility of a gubernatorial run is concerned, that has to wait for a decision on ‘yung kaniyang pagtakbo for president (her decision to run for president)," the OVP mouthpiece said.
