PH new COVID cases reach almost 2,000

The Philippines has recorded almost 2,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Saturday, Jan. 9, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

The DOH reported 1,952 additional COVID-19 cases, raising the country’s cumulative total to 485,797. Of the total, 26,784 cases are still active or those who are still undergoing treatment.

Of the active cases, 83.1 percent have mild symptoms, 8.6 percent are asymptomatic, 5.1 percent are in critical condition, 2.8 percent are severe, and 0.47 percent are moderate.

Davao City logged the most number of new cases with 143, followed by Quezon City with 98, Rizal with 80, Cavite with 77, and Bulacan with 74.

There were 291 new survivors, raising the total to 449,615. The tally of recoveries accounts for 92.6 percent of the total recorded infections in the country.

However, the viral disease claimed 34 more lives. This brought the country’s death toll to 9,398.
The public were advised to continue practicing the basic health protocols.

“Our minimum public health standards have been proven to be effective, so we should continue to practice these protocols. Proper use of face masks, face shields, and physical distancing are our keys to safety,” the DOH said in Filipino.
