'Slam Dunk' author teases fans with upcoming film

Basketball and anime fans are in for a treat as renowned mangaka Takehiko Inoue announced a new upcoming film project for the hit sports manga series "Slam Dunk."

Inoue made the announcement on his official Twitter account @inouetake, tweeting a GIF counterpart that reads the anime title "SLAM DUNK."

"It will be a movie," said Inoue in Japanese as translated by Google Translate with the hashtag #slamdunkmovie.

An official teaser website and Twitter account were also launched along with the film announcement.

The teaser site is still in the works but a link to Toei Animation, the production behind its anime adaptation, can also be accessed.

The news also came following Slam Dunk's 30th-anniversary celebration last year since its manga serialization in 1990.

Slam Dunk, which was adapted into anime television series by Toei Animation in 1993, tells the journey of high school delinquent Hanamichi Sakuragi and his road to greatness with the Shohoku High School basketball team.

It also aired on Philippine television during the early 2000s.
