#SorryJungIn: 16-month-old Korean baby dies from child abuse

A horrifying case of child abuse was brought to light in a recent episode by Korean television series Unanswered Questions, and now the hashtag #SorryJungin is trending all over South Korea.

The program covered a story of an adopted 16-month-old baby named Jung In who passed away in October 2020.

In the autopsy, it was revealed that Jung In's cause of death is "damages to the abdomen by an external force." Along with severe pancreas damage, she has suffered multiple fractures to her skull, ribs, and collarbones.

It was revealed by the Unanswered Questions that the baby, who was adopted when she was only six months old, was repeatedly abused by her new parents, Jang and Ahn. 

In a report by Korea Times, the toddler's adoptive parents claimed that "their daughter fell while playing on the sofa," but the police found evidence of over 800 videos of Jang "physically and mentally abusing Jung In."

Turns out, a daycare teacher and a pediatrician made separate reports to the police about suspected child abuse and maltreatment as they had seen the child's body was covered in bruises. Their reports, however, were snubbed by the police thrice. 

Before the baby's death, the family even appeared on a television show titled One Average Family posing as a happy family.

Celebrities like Jimin of BTS have joined the "#SorryJungIn" campaign to mourn her death and raise awareness on the problem of child abuse.
