31 PDLs take RT-PCR test

A total of 31 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) took an RT-PCR test Monday after testing positive in a rapid antigen test in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

In a Facebook post, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said that the specimen collection was performed by the Directorate for Health and Services in partnership with the Department of Health.

Those with negative results will be transferred back to their respective cells and those positive for COVID-19 will remain in the isolation area.

BuCor recently began using rapid antigen testing to screen PDL population at the NBP camps.

The Bureau of Corrections Directorate for Health Services led by Dr. Henry Fabro in partnership with the DoH first conducted a rapid antigen tTesting of PDLs at Building 14 of the Maximum Security Compound of the NBP.

A total of 123 PDLs were tested. The test was done as a precautionary measure as the BuCor temporarily allowed "controlled dalaw" of PDL's relatives during the holiday season.

Last week, Department of Justice (DoJ) Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay Villar disclosed that a total of 598 PDLs and BuCor personnel have been infected with COVID-19.

She said that as of last Dec. 15, there were 441 recoveries and 27 deaths and 130 active cases that "are all mild and asymptomatic.”

Most of the COVID-19 cases were detected at the NBP and at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.
