PH cyclone free until end of January

The country is expected to be cyclone-free during the remainder of January while the northeast monsoon or "amihan" may bring colder weather towards the weekend.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the amihan is the current weather system prevailing over the country that may gradually intensify and bring cold and rainy weather over the archipelago in the next few days.

"Sa mga susunod na araw ay mas lalakas pa at mararamdaman sa buong kapuluan na magdadala ng malamig na panahon lalo na sa madaling araw hanggang sa umaga. (In the coming days, the amihan will be even stronger and will be felt throughout the archipelago bringing cold weather especially from dawn until early morning)," he said.

Cold breeze due to the amihan will be also felt in Metro Manila and most of Luzon by weekend. The amihan may also bring rains, especially in the eastern side of the Philippines, he added.

Meanwhile, Rojas said they have not monitored a tropical cyclone that may form within the country's area of responsibility in the next five days.

The weather bureau has not issued a gale warning on Tuesday as sea conditions over Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon will be moderate to rough, while it will be slight to moderate over the rest of the country

Seafarers and fisherfolk are safe to sail but are still advised to observe caution when venturing out to sea.
