Police are investigating the death of Korean rapper Iron (real name: Jung Hun-cheol) and they ruled out that he was killed.

Iron was found bleeding by a security guard on a flower bed at an apartment in Jung-gu, Seoul at about 10:25 a.m. on Jan. 25. He was taken to the hospital but was declared dead.

The 29-year-old singer rose to prominence after placing second on the rap TV competition “Show Me the Money” Season 3 in 2014. He released the album “Rock Bottom” in 2016.

According to Korean media, while the apartment where he was found turned out not to be his own, the police did not find any indication that there was foul play in his death.

They are investigating whether Iron committed suicide. His family also refused to have his body autopsied, which can determine the cause of his death.

His sister told Korean media outlet E-Daily that their family had no intention of autopsy from the beginning.

“It’s hurtful as there are news articles stating that the police are going to decide whether to conduct an autopsy by consulting with our family,” she said but declined to reveal Iron’s exact cause of death.

She said Iron had been in frequent contact with the family until recently. He was stressed out due to music but he had no health problems.

The police investigated Iron last December for assaulting his roommate with a baseball bat. His sister said the person visited Iron’s wake at the funeral hall of the National Medical Center in Jung-gu.

Since his debut, Iron faced many controversies that prevented him from pursuing his activities as a singer. In November 2016, he was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for two years for smoking marijuana.

The following year, he was arrested and charged for beating his girlfriend for which he was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for two years and was ordered to complete 80 hours of community service.

Iron’s funeral ceremony will be held on Jan. 28 and his final resting place is at the Seoul Memorial Park.
