BOC frontline services now fully automated

The Bureau of Customs’ frontline transactions are now fully automated, the Department of Finance (DOF) said.

In a statement, the DOF said that Customs secured a 100-percent accomplishment rate in 2020 on its target to modernize the agency’s frontline services despite the operational challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said they employed digital tools to curb smuggling and further improve their delivery of services to the public.

With the full automation, Guerrero said their frontline services can now accommodate online submission of documents through its Customer Care Portal System, upgrade its electronic-to-mobile (E2M) system and accept online payment options like PayMaya.

“The E2M upgrade is continuously being developed, but critical modules are already being deployed in various ports, online payment through PayMaya was established and on-line submission of documents is now integrated via the Customer Care Portal,” Guerrero said.

“Likewise, all deliverables for our priority program on improving our risk management system were also achieved on time,” the Customs chief said in his report to Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III.

The Customs’ automated frontline transactions will improve its risk management processes by utilizing an electronic Cargo Targeting System as well as enhance its cargo selectivity system and roll out a new Universal Risk Management System (URMS).

“Let me congratulate you for a good year despite all the difficulties we have encountered,” Dominguez told Guerrero.

“Your achievements in digitalization, in seizing smuggled goods particularly cigarettes are very good achievements and really helped us clean our cigarette business of illicit cigarettes and smuggled cigarettes,” Dominguez added.
