Volleyball elections to push through

A new volleyball federation in the country will emerge on Monday when the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) supervises its election of officers at the East Ocean Palace Restaurant in Parañaque City.

The proceeding is in compliance with the International Volleyball Federation’s (FIVB) request for the National Sports Association’s election before the World Volleyball Congress on Feb. 5 to 7.

Volleyball stakeholders expected to participate are the Alliance of Philippine Volleyball Associations Inc, the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc (LVPI), regional members from the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) and POC.

Time of ballot dropping will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while time of canvassing will be at 1 p.m.

Sources, however, said the proceeding would just be a formality with Alliance’s Ramon “Tats” Suzara set to be named president and LVPI’s Ariel Paredes as chairman.

It was reported that PVL president Edgardo Cantada would not participate after rejecting the proposal last week, a day after POC president Bambol Tolentino met with several stakeholders.

Sources who were in the meeting said the group agreed to allot four board seats each to LVPI, PVF and Alliance, with a 13th seat to a POC representative, reportedly legal counsel Atty Wharton Chan.

The new sets of officers, which will have a one-year mandate before another election schedule next year, will serve a step for the country in securing recognition from the FIVB.
