John Estrada: 'Wala akong ambisyon na pantayan si Tito Dolphy'

Actor John Estrada is back in making comedy skits! This time, he will appear in a sitcom titled "John En Ellen" opposite Ellen Adarna who is making her showbiz comeback after three years.

"Na-miss ko ang comedy and I am glad gumagawa uli akong comedy show," said Estrada during a virtual press conference for the show. "John En Ellen" is produced by Cignal Entertainment.

Estrada added: "Akala ko nga hindi na papayag si Ellen (Adarna) kasi nga focus na siya sa anak niya but thank God pumayag na siya. Gusto ko sana si Angelina Jolie pero pumayag na si Ellen Adarna kaya okay na."

Asked to describe Adarna, Estrada said: "She's bubbly, a very good soul. She brings energy to the set, she speaks her mind. Kung meron man kayong bad image kay Ellen itapon na ninyo yun dahil hindi naman siya ganun."

Some people can't help but compare the sitcom to the iconic blockbuster comedy show "John En Marsha" starring the late veteran stars Dolphy and Nida Blanca.

Estrada frowned at the comments that their show is a copycat of the 70s comedy program.

"Eto lang po ang sasabihin ko. Wala akong ambisyon na pantayan si Tito Dolphy. Wala po akong ganung ilusyon or misyon. Sana huwag naman ikumpara. Kung ang 'John En Marsha' noon ay masarap na adobo, ang John En Ellen' naman ay masarap na sinigang," he said.

Adarna, however, refused to comment on the comparisons between the two TV programs because she's not familiar with "John En Marsha."

"Hindi ko napanood ang John En Marsha," she said.

The show follows the story of John Lennon Kulantong (John Estrada) and his wife Ellen Kulantong (Ellen Adarna), who beat the odds together and live out their promise to stay together “through thick and thin” despite the countless obstacles they have to deal with as a couple.

Estrada said that the new family entertainment will bring laughter and life lessons which premieres on Sunday, Jan. 24.

Completing the show’s powerhouse cast are veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez as Don Lucky dela Suerte, Ellen’s big shot father who disapproves of John for his daughter; Long Mejia as Ynigo Tange, Don Lucky’s mischievous chief assistant; Haiza Madrid as Mimi, Don Lucky’s trusted nurse; and former child actor Yogo Singh and recording artist Angelina Cruz as John and Ellen’s children Valentino Kulantong and Camille Kulantong.
