Abed's Storm Spirit lifts Evil Geniuses to victorious debut in DPC-NA league

Filipino star midlaner Abed Azel "Abed" Yusop took charge with his Storm Spirit in the deciding game as Evil Geniuses beat 4 Zoomers, 2-1, to open its campaign in the upper division of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC)-North America Regional League on Wednesday (PH time).Â

With an early Orchid Malevolence pickup and a 24-minute Bloodstone, Abed's Storm Spirit easily zapped 4 Zoomers' heroes to power EG's dominant 26-7 victory in the decisive Game 3 that lasted for only 30 minutes.Â

The 20-year-old midlaner, who was the first player to reach 10k MMR and eventually 11k MMR in Dota history, racked up 12 kills and nine assists against a lone death as he dealt the most hero damage from his team at 19.7k.Â

Abed's Batrider was also instrumental in the series opener, coming through with clutch Flaming Lasso catches to lead EG to a 46-minute 40-20 win together with 11k MMR carry Artour "Arteezy" Babaev'sÂ Juggernaut.Â

EG, the champion of The International 2015 (TI5), dodged a disastrous start to its DPC campaign after losing the hour-long Game 2 despite the double Divine Rapier pickup of Arteezy's Wraith King.Â

The DPC-NA only stakes two slots to the first Dota 2 Major tournament this year, unlike in the Southeast Asia league where three tickets are up for grabs.Â

The opening series also saw the debut of veteran Singaporean offlaner Daryl "iceiceice" Koh Pei Xiang for the American squad which also has former OG members Tal "Fly" Aizik and Andreas "Cr1t-" Nielsen.Â

Abed and EG will next face Sadboys led by ex-EG stars and TI5 winners Clinton "Fear" Loomis and Peter "ppd" Dager on January 24 (January 25 in Manila).Â
