PVF regional officials want elections to proceed

Regional heads from the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) are throwing in their support for the upcoming volleyball elections despite its president Edgardo Cantada making a protest.

In a letter to the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) Tuesday, PVF vice president Dr. Arnel Hajan requested that they be included in the polls.

“We, PVF for Mindanao, Visayas, Luzon and Metro Manila, would like to express our sincerest manifestation and support the unification for volleyball,” Hajan wrote.

Hajan also presented the list of representatives from the group “with the assurance that we are more than willing to cooperate for the noble intention of the FIVB and POC.”

Included in the list apart from Hajan are Nestor Bello (PVF Metro Manila), Garry Jamili (PVF Visayas) and Yul Benosa (PVF North Luzon).

“We sincerely hope that our voice will be heard for the unity, peace and progress for Philippine volleyball to its greater heights,” wrote Hajan.

The POC is supervising the elections set Jan. 25 as mandated by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in a letter sent last December.

Tolentino met with major volleyball stakeholders over the weekend to lay down the groundwork so election results can be presented to the World Volleyball Congress on Feb. 5 to 7.

However, a day after the meeting, Cantada wrote a letter to Tolentino saying they “cannot accept the condition that the PVF must be replaced with a new group.”
