ILIGAN CITY – The city government of Oroquieta signed a deal with AstraZeneca for the advance purchase of 120,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines against coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 for the city’s 60,000 residents.
Oroquieta Mayor Lemuel Acosta, during the Kita ang Oroquieta live program, announced that all city residents, aged 18 years old and above, will be vaccinated for free.
"We ordered 120, 000 doses to vaccinate all residents of Oroquieta City, as the vaccine is administered in two doses," he said.
He added that the order will be enough for the 50,000 residents, who are registered voters, with a 10,000-allowance for residents not registered in the city.
He clarified that the administration of the vaccine would be voluntary, and there would be a need to register online.
"We don't really force the people to avail the vaccination. It should be on their own will, but we are doing this to contain the spread of COVID-19, and for us to be confident on the safety of our city", Acosta stated.
“Kini siya voluntary, angay jud muregister online. Dili nato pugson ang mga tao nga magpatupok sila but mao ni ang lakang sa atong syudad kay nakita nato nga mao ra gyud ni ang solusyon nga macontain nato ang COVID-19 ug kampante ta nga safe atong syudad,” he said.
Acosta said that senior citizens, persons with disability (PWD) or vulnerable sectors, medical frontliners, repatriation and extraction teams, barangay health workers, and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel will be the first ones to be administered the vaccines.
The second priority would be public utility vehicle drivers, vendors, private sector and general public.
The city is also preparing a pre-registration online portal for those who would like to be vaccinated.
