FYA! This young photographer wants to capture the story behind every person

Jebe Gonzalez often finds himself in the middle of action. If he’s not on the mats training Jiu-Jitsu with his Deftac teammates, he says, you’ll find him out on the streets taking photos.

The Parañaque-based, 25-year-old artist, in fact, often looks for action to capture the story behind every person or moment he photographs. As today’s Featured Young Artist, Jebe tells how he tries to be at the right place, at the right time to “get that perfect shot.”

How would you describe your art, and yourself as an artist?

I’d like to think my photos capture the reality of life, how there is a story behind every person and how real their emotions are during that specific moment. As a photographer, my goal is simply to be at the right place, at the right time to get that perfect shot.

Where do you draw inspiration for your works?

My work has always been influenced by great photographers like Benj Villena, Nikko Pascua, and other amazing Filipino photographers. But what inspires me the most is just the drive to just go outside, create, and find that perfect shot and tell another story.

Do you have a particularly favorite piece that you've done? Which is it, and why?

Honestly, I love all my works as they all tell a different story and I love all of them differently.

What is your personal opinion about young people pursuing arts, whether as a passion or a profession?

Personally, I believe young people pursuing art is always something to look forward to. The world is filled with beautiful minds and every day there will always be something different for us to see thanks to these young creative people.

Any message you want to give to aspiring artists?

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, be your own critic, and remember that art is always subjective. If you love what you’ve created, then never doubt yourself.
