Castro, Parks begin recovery from finals injury

TNT veteran playmaker Jayson Castro has started his journey to recovery from his knee injury caused by bone spurs while combo guard Ray Parks Jr. continues the rehabilitation of his left calf.  

Castro, 34, underwent a surgery to remove the bone spurs on one of his knees on Monday, according to TNT head coach Bong Ravena. 

Another operation will be administered next week to treat the same injury on his other knee as the Gilas Pilipinas mainstay looks to join the Tropang Giga's training being eyed to start later this month. 

"After a week, 'yung other knee naman niya. He'll be back baka second week of February," Ravena told the Manila Bulletin in a text message. 

Castro went down with a hurting left knee midway through Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals between the Tropang Giga and the Barangay Ginebra Kings which the latter won 98-88 to move on the cusp of the championship.

The five-time Best of Player of the Conference, who was also dealing with a nagging calf injury that time, was forced to sit out Game 5 wherein Ginebra took an 82-78 victory and closed out the series, 4-1, for its first all-Filipino crown in 13 years.

On the other hand, the 27-year-old Parks is well on his way to recovering from the left calf strain he aggravated in the Finals opener and caused him to miss the rest of the series. 

"Nagpapagaling pa siya sa States (US)," said Ravena. 

Parks, a strong candidate for the BPC award after leading the statistical race in the PBA bubble, posted a video on Instagram late last month showing his shooting drill with the caption: "Road to recovery."
