‘Squid Game’ star Park Hae-soo now a father


Korean actor Park Hae-soo has another reason to celebrate after the success of the Netflix Korean series “Squid Game.”

It was announced that the 39-year-old actor became a dad after two years of marriage. According to his agency, BH Entertainment, “Park Hae-soo recently welcomed a son. Both mother and child are healthy.”

Park Hae-soo married his girlfriend in January 2019 in a ceremony attended by his co-stars in “Prison Playbook.”

He is receiving attention for starring in “Squid Game,” which is now the No. 1 show worldwide on Netflix, according to streaming analytics website FlixPatrol.

“Squid Game” was released on Sept. 17 and as of Sept. 27, it is No. 1 on Netflix in 75 countries and territories including the US.

Park Hae-soo rose to stardom when played the lead role in “Prison Playbook,” which aired from December 2017 to January 2018. He won best new actor at the 2nd Seoul Awards. He is set to star in the upcoming OCN drama “Chimera,” which will start airing next month.

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, said on Sept. 27 that “Squid Game” could be the video streaming giant’s biggest show ever.

"Squid Game will definitely be our biggest non-English language show in the world, for sure," Sarandos said at Code 2021 conference in the US, according to Yonhap News. "It's only been out for nine days, and it's a very good chance it's going to be our biggest show ever. It's enormously popular.”

Starring Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo, “Squid Game” tells the story of 456 debt-ridden people in Korea who participate in deadly survival games with a 45.6 billion won ($38.5 million) prize at stake.
