P20-bill still legal tender, says Roque


Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque branded as fake news the reports circulating via text message that the P20 banknote will no longer be recognized as legal tender before the end of 2021.

"Ang P20 paper bill ay mananatiling legal tender. Mayroon po kasing fake news na kumalat na hindi na raw po ito kikilalanin bago matapos ang taon (The P20 paper bill will remain legal tender. There are fake news spreading that these would no longer be recognized before year's end)," Roque said Tuesday,. Sept. 28 during a virtual press briefing.

"Wala pong katotohanan ito. Magagamit pa rin ang P20 papel kasama ang P20 coin (There's no truth to this. The P20 banknote will stillbe usable alongside the P20 coin)," he underscored.

The bi-metallic P20 coin was released in late 2019. Its observe features President Manuel L. Quezon--the historical figure that's also on the banknote version.
