Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said the rule of law will prevail under his watch in case he wins in the 2022 presidential elections.
"Why not? I will not prevent anything. The rule of law will be observed under my watch. why not? if there's nothing to hide di ba?" he said when asked by ABS-CBN News if he will let the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the Extrajudicial killing (EJK) which happened under the current administration.
President Duterte had earlier said that he will run for vice president of Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) in the upcoming 2022 national elections.
Domagoso said that if he wins as president and President Duterte will be his vice president, he can work with him.
"I can, definitely, yes," Domagoso said.
According to Domagaso, the investigation of EJK might gain some level of respect from other countries which can serve as a proof that the country is certain with its rules.
"Yes, again, why not? wala naman mawawala (there's nothing to lose) if we can also gain some level of respect from some people in countries and makita nila (they will see) that we're certain about our rules bakit naman hindi (why not)," he said.
Asked if he will protect Duterte as his vice president if the ICC finds him guilty in its investigation. Domagoso said: "No, what do you mean hindi ko siya poprotekahan? (Are you asking if I will protect him)? My job as a Filipino is to protect every single citizen of this country. That is the job of the president. That includes 'yung mga kababayan nating OFW na nakakulong, puputulan na lang ng ulo (our OFWs who are imprisoned and will be beheaded) somewhere else," he said.
Domagoso said he will treat President Duterte with respect and if the latter is willing to accept a Cabinet post, he will give it to him.
He vowed to be a healing president, saying the people are tired and he wants unity and reconciliation to prevail among the people.
"I really want to heal the country. The people are tired. Wala ng boses ang tao para masabi na pwede bang tumigil na kayo (The people don't have the voice to say that they should stop) let's just focus on something," he said.
"Too much excess baggage will hinder us to move fast for the recovery of our country and for our family and our economy," he added.
