CA confirms 32 AFP officers, 18 DFA officials and retired SC justice


The powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday (September 22) 32 ranking officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), 19 Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) diplomats and one member of the Justice, and Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).

Danilo Fuentes Jr. was confirmed as Rear Admiral during the CA’s plenary session presided by Senate President Vicente S. Sotto III, concurrent CA chairman.

Representative Luis Ferrer IV, chairman of the CA national defense committee, favorably endorsed Fuentes’ confirmation following a public hearing to determine his fitness to be the Philippine Navy’s Rear Admiral.

Also confirmed as Major Generals were Francisco Ariel A. Felicidario III and Edward L. Libago.

Also confirmed as Brigadier Generals Julis Tomines, Jaime A. Abawag Jr. and Florante P. Sison.

Likewise confirmed were 32 colonels.

The 25-member Commission likewise confirmed the appointments DFA officials led by Mario Fontanilla Chan, a former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Major General), as ambassador to Brazil with concurrent jurisdiction over Colombia, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela.

Also confIrmed as Chiefs of Mission, Class I were Sulpicio Miguel Confiado, Nathaniel Garcia Imperial, Charlie Pacana Manangan, Hjayceelyn Mancenido Quintana and Renato Pedro Oabel Villa.

Confirmed as Chiefs of Mission, class II, were Leo Tito Lunar Ausan Jr., Jose Almodovar Cabrera Jr., Emilio Torres Fernandez, Josel Francisco Ignacio, Rosario Paulino Lemque and Marcos Angelo Abad Santos Punsalang.

Baaed on the recommendation of Senator Panfilo M. Lacson, chairman of the CA Foreign Affairs committee, the CA confirmed as Career Ministers Ariz Severino Villaescusa Convalecer, Maria Paz Gaban Cortes, Christina Gracia Rola MCkernan, Reichel Pajarillaga Quinones and J. Anthony Aquino Reyes.

Confirmed as Foreign Service Officers, Class I were Redentor Diaz Genotiva and Mary Grace Villanueva Villamayor.

The Commission also confirmed former Supreme Court Justice Jose Catral Mendoza to the Justice and Bar Council, representing Retired Justices of the Supreme Court until July 9, 2025.
