PDP-Laban faction says ‘no talks yet’ on Bongbong Marcos candidacy

A party official of a faction in the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) said there are no formal talks on the candidacy of former Senator Bongbong Marcos yet, whether formal or informal.

PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag, who is part of the faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, said they were only bits of information on possible meetings with the former lawmaker, but these have not materialized.

“Personally, I can tell na walang opisyal na pag-uusap. Mayroong mga nakakarating, mga pasabi pero ‘yung opisyal na pag-uusap, wala po (there is no official talks. There have been feelers but there are no official talks),” Matibag said during an online press briefing.

“We have heard of such reports but, personally, I can tell you that there are no official discussions on such matter,” Matibag said.

However, the PDP-Laban remains hopeful that Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, would eventually change his mind and accept his nomination as candidate for President of the ruling party in the May 2022 elections.

“As we said before we will wait for his (Go’s) decision. We have enough time. Remember what he said before: he leaves his fate to God and the Dutertes and also that he might run for President if President Duterte were his vice-presidential running mate,” Matibag pointed out.

Marcos earlier said he is considering running for president in next year’s polls.
