With a score of 88.63, the province located in the region of Mimaropa ranked 19th on the magazine’s Top 25 Islands in the World, and fifth in the Asian category. Apart from its idyllic horizon, mountain views, and white sand beach, Palawan is recognized for being an “unrivaled diving” spot, just like Thailand’s Koh Samui.

“When they arrive, guests find mountains as well as white sand beaches washed by the Sulu and South China seas. Resorts range from eco-chic stays to the spectacular Amanpulo resort, accessible only by private plane,” the article says about Palawan. “Its 58 casitas and villas are nestled in the lush hillside and along the beach; each villa has its own chef and butler.”

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat expressed her praise for the island for being included in the international travel poll, especially now that the country is reinvigorating its tourism.

“The award accorded to Palawan speaks for the country’s tourism destinations, still being on top of the minds of travelers. The Philippines’ natural wonders, coupled with the world-renowned Filipino hospitality, make destinations like Palawan truly one of the best, not just in the region, but in the world,” she says.

Released last Sept. 8, 2021, Travel+Leisure’s World's Best 2021 survey is held from Jan. 11 to May 10, 2021. Its readers vote on the best travel destinations as well as airlines, airports, cities, and hotels, among others, with the “hope that this year's honorees will inspire your own travels as you get back out into the world.”
