Faced with the challenge of battling hunger amidst the pandemic, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has tapped the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in Asia, Foton, to mobilize its innovatively designed Food Trucks.
With the goal of helping those in need, the PRC spearheaded a project to provide essential aid to citizens through the use of mobile kitchens.
“Ngayong mag-i-ECQ, maraming kababayan natin ang maaring nawawalan ng trabaho so, naisipan po ng ating National Headquarters, specially ni Chairman Gordon itong mga Food Truck natin para makatulong sa mga barangay, mga lugar na mahihirapan maka-access sa safe and nutritious food, (Under ECQ, many of our countrymen could lose their jobs. So our National Headquarters, headed by Chairman Gordon, thought of using food trucks to help barangays and areas that could have a hard time accessing safe and nutritious food.),” said Philippine Red Cross Navotas and Caloocan Chapter Admin, Roberto R. Dacles.
The project’s needs were handled by the Foton Quezon Avenue. It entailed a total of four units of Foton Tornado M4.2C Food Trucks turned over to the Philippine Red Cross in Mandaluyong City. Inside each unit is a state-of-the-art kitchen that was designed to ergonomically meet food preparation needs with amenities like a refrigerator, cooking stove, equipment storage, washing area, and a stove hood.
“Isa po talaga sa problems namin is yung transportation, kung papaano po namin ibababa sa community yung mga food at relief, (One of our biggest problems is transportation, particularly bringing food and relief to communities),” said Dacles. “At itong si Foton Philippines po ay napakalaking tulong po sa atin kasi napapabilis po natin ang agarang tulong para sa mga naapektuhan ng pandemic, (Foton has been a big help, quickly offering support for those affected by the pandemic.), ” he added.
Powered by one of the world’s pioneering diesel engine brands, Cummins, the Foton Tornado M4.2C Food Trucks can produce a maximum power output of 154-NM at 1,200 to 1,900 rpm, enabling it to conquer steep inclines or cross highways with ease.
The 14-foot body length of the Foton Tornado M4.2C Food Truck can fit various kitchen essentials while still being compact enough to easily fit in the tight streets of the metropolis, making it suitable for an immediate response vehicle especially in times of emergency.
“Alam naman po natin na tayo ay archipelagic country kaya napakahalaga po sa atin ang transportasyon, (Being an archipelago, transportation is important in this country.),” Dacles explains. “Ang partnership na ito ng Red Cross at Foton Philippines ay magbubunga ng maganda most especially pagdating sa pagtulong sa mga kababayan natin,(The partnership between Red Cross and Foton has bourne beautiful fruit to help our countrymen.),” he claimed.
