The enrollment for this school year continues to increase steadily based on the data released by the Department of Education (DepEd).
As of Thursday, Sept. 16, DepEd has recorded 26.9 million enrollees for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 or 102.8 percent of the enrollment last school year.

Based on DepEd’s Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count, there are 26,972, 185 enrollees in formal education and 200,360 enrollees in the informal system or the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
The regular enrollment for SY 2021-2022 started on Aug. 16. Since then, DepEd recorded 22, 414, 858 students enrolled in public and private schools which include State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)/Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) which offer basic education.
The current enrollment data included the enrollees who participated in the Early Registration held in March to May wherein 4,557, 327 Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners were recorded.
DepEd said that of the running enrollment total, there are 20, 594, 122 students in public schools; 1, 765, 385 learners enrolled in private schools; and 53, 351 students in SUCs/LUCs.
Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon (Calabazon) or Region IV-A remained the region with highest number of enrollees with 3, 522, 881. It was followed by Central Luzon (Region III) with 2, 640, 474 and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,472, 449.
In the formal system, DepEd has recorded 26, 227, 022 enrollees in SY 2020-2021. However, the actual enrollment was recorded at 26, 799, 736 as of May 15, 2021.
DepEd has extended the enrollment period for public schools until Sept. 30, 2021 to encourage more parents and guardians to enroll the children this school year.

The DepEd is once again implementing distance/blended learning scheme this school year amid the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country.
Without face-to-face classes, learners in basic education are learning at home using multiple delivery modalities which include printed modular (printed and offline); online learning; television and radio-based instruction; or a combination or blending of these modalities under “blended learning.”
