Metro cops tasked to prepare for granular lockdown, quarantine alert level system
Police commanders in Metro Manila have been ordered to coordinate with the local government units (LGUs) for the implementation of granular lockdown and quarantine alert level system in order to come up with strategic enforcement and deployment plan once the they are implemented starting Sept. 16.
PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said the move is to ensure that local police forces are well-prepared and that its implementation would not result to confusion that sometimes lead to unnecessary arguments and confrontations.

On Monday night, the national government released the guidelines, which aim to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) amid the continuous rise of cases in the past days.
What the PNP wants to prevent, according to Eleazar, is the confusion in the implementation of the rules which sometimes lead to unnecessary arguments and confrontations with the public.
Under the new guidelines, alert level systems will cover entire cities or municipalities, which will manage and minimize spread of infections. Each city or municipality will be classified from Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 5, which will be determined by the Department of Health.
At least five LGUs in Metro Manila are now being eyed to be classified under Alert Level 4 while two others under Alert Level 3, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said.
The granular lockdowns, on the other hand, are the critical zones that will be declared by the local government unit.
“The PNP will actively assist in the enforcement and information dissemination," said Eleazar.
The Chief PNP reminded police officers to observe maximum tolerance and impose what is only stated on the guidelines, noting that violators should never be punished.
He also reiterated his appeal to the public to cooperate and follow the guidelines set by the government.
