The much-awaited guidelines for the alternative levels system (ALS) that will be piloted in Metro Manila starting September 16, 2021, is out.

On opening day of schoolyear 2021-2022, students and parents called for the resumption of face-to-face classes, while a militant teachers’ group is challenging Education Secretary Leonor Briones’ claim that the school opening was a huge success. A group of private school associations also raised the alarm over the 66-percent plunge in enrolment.

In provincial news, a Grade 10 student was reported killing during hazing rites in Negros Occidental; the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Region 7 released a sketch of the gunman in the slay of a human rights lawyer in Cebu; and Cordillera province logged a single-day record of 23 deaths.
