The Supreme Court (SC) mourns the passing on Monday, Sept. 13, of retired Associate Justice Ruben T. Reyes, also a former presiding justice of the Court of Appeals (CA).
Reyes earned his law degree from the Manuel L. Quezon University in 1962.
He engaged in private practice of law for several years before he was appointed assistant prosecutor in Manila and later as judge of the Manila regional trial court (RTC)
In 1994, Reyes was appointed associate justice of the Court of Appeals. In 2005, he was named CA presiding justice.
He was appointed to the SC on Aug. 1, 2007 and served the High Court until Jan. 2, 2009 when he reached age 70, the mandatory retirement age for members of the judiciary.
Justice Reyes was married to lawyer Ellie Cruz Reyes with whom he had four children.
The SC, in an announcement, did not mention the cause of Reyes’ death.
