'Kiko' makes landfall in Ivana, Batanes

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said typhoon "Kiko" (international name "Chanthu") has made landfall over Ivana, Batanes at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 11.

Kiko was packing maximum sustained winds of 215 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 265 kph while moving north-northwest at 15 kph.

Tropical cyclone wind signal number 4 remains hoisted over Batanes and northeastern portion of Babuyan Islands and Signal No. 3 in the northwestern portion of Babuyan Islands.

Signal No. 2 was also in effect in the rest of Babuyan Islands and Signal No. 1 in mainland Cagayan, Apayao, and northern portion of Ilocos Norte.
