TACLOBAN CITY — A cop saved a 20-year-old mother from an apparent suicide attempt when she tried to jump from the third floor of the New Bus Terminal in Barangay Abucay, here Wednesday (September 8).

Corporal Rico Estrella of Tacloban City Police Station 2, said he noticed a pair of slippers fell from the third floor of the terminal.

He saw a woman who was sitting on the edge and was attempting to jump from the third floor. This prompted the cop to run inside the building and grabbed her to prevent her from jumping.

The 20-year-old woman, along with her husband, was brought to the Women and Children Protection Desk for intervention.

It was learned that she was having financial problems and is exhibiting symptoms of postpartum depression.

PMaj Winrich Laya Lim, Tacloban City Police Station 2 chief lauded PCpl Estrella for his heroic act.

He added that they will sponsor the wedding of the mother and her partner, as well as the baptism of their children.

“A life of a mother was saved. We came up with a plan to solve some of her problems that might help in her recovery,” he shared.
