In a sudden change of heart, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (MEID) has decided to stick with a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila for another week, deferring the implementation of the less restrictive general community quarantine (GCQ) and granular lockdowns.

Meanwhile, the country is in for a double whammy as severe tropical storm Jolina has made is way to Marinduque, stranding thousands of commuters and passengers, and tropical cyclone, “Kiko”, has intensified into a typhoon as of 12:47 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021, threatening northern Luzon.
