Jolina causes damage in Antique town


ILOILO CITY — State weather bureau PAGASA did not place any part of Panay Island under storm signal, but the effect of Typhoon Jolina caused damage to a town in Antique province.

Mayor Mary Jean Te of Libertad, a coastal town in the northwest side of Antique province, reported several damages.

Te shared photos of the various damages to Libertad in a Facebook post Wednesday, September 8.

The hanging bridge at Barangay Codiong was damaged as portion of the bridge was torn and local residents cannot cross to the other side of the river.

Te also reported that rice fields were submerged and floodwaters while the water system in Barangay Pucio was also damaged.

Several families in Barangays Pucios, Tinigbas and Union had to be evacuated due to minor landslides.

Te said that it is fortunate that no one has been injured.

Meanwhile, the Western Visayas regional Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is still consolidating data as to Jolina’s damage in other parts of the region.
