CEBU CITY – A fisherman was reported missing while two others were rescued in separate incidents in Daanbantayan town, northern Cebu.
The two rescued fishermen were trying to secure their boats to safer grounds when huge waves hit them early morning Tuesday, September 7.
The incidents happened while Daanbantayan and other areas in Cebu were placed under signal number 1 due to tropical cyclone Jolina.
The Coast Guard and the town's local disaster management office have launched a search and rescue operations for the missing fisherman.
According to Daanbantayan's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Victor D'osep Tancawan, rescuers found the two fishermen drifting with their fishing boats off barangays Tapilon and Maya.
In barangay Malbago of the same town, a still-unidentified fisherman was reported missing after he set out for fishing on Monday night.
Due to heavy rains brought about by "Jolina", flooding was reported in northern Cebu such as Bogo City, Borbon as well as in the Camotes Island Group.
Several families in Borbon evacuated after their houses were flooded, the town's disaster management chief Rodrigo Tecson reported.
In Bogo City, floodings were reported in barangays Bungtod, La Purisima Concepcion, Polambato, Taytayan and San Pedro.
Several passengers were stranded after cargo and passenger vessels were not allowed to sail in the ports of Polambato, Bogo and San Remigio.
According to the Cebu Port of Authority, some 161 passengers were stranded in the different ports of province due to cancellation of sea trips.
