DFA records 130 new COVID-19 cases, 7 deaths among overseas Filipinos last week


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday reported a total of 130 new COVID-19 cases and seven new fatalities among Filipinos abroad for the whole period of last week.

In the same report, the DFA also recorded 287 recoveries among overseas Filipinos over the same period.

This brings the total number of Filipinos abroad who had been infected with COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic last year to 23,036.

Of that total, 13,215 have recovered, 8,445 are undergoing treatment and 1,376 succumbed to the disease.

Compared to last week’s figures, the total number of recoveries increased by 2.22 percent.

Europe was the only region that did not record new cases this past week, according to the report.

There are now 103 countries and territories with confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Filipinos abroad, following reports from the Middle East and Asia and the Pacific.

The Middle East and Africa remain as the regions with the biggest number of cases among Filipinos with a total of 12,973, followed by Asia and the Pacific with 5,376; Europe, 3,651 and the Americas, 1036.

The DFA assured that together with its Foreign Service Posts, it shall continue to monitor and assist Filipino nationals abroad amidst the pandemic.
