CEBU CITY – This city on Monday, September 6, opened its ninth vaccination site as it stepped up its bid to achieve herd immunity.
The city’s latest vaccination site located at the Southwestern University (SWU) campus in Barangay Sambag 1 can accommodate at least 500 individuals in a day, said City Health Officer Dr. Jeffrey Ibones.
Ibones said the city has been ramping up its vaccination efforts in support of the national government’s goal of vaccinating the general public before the year ends.
The city is targeting to have least 21 vaccination centers.
Other existing inoculation sites are SM Seaside, SM City Cebu, Robinsons Galleria, the Banilad and J. Alcantara Street campuses of University of Cebu, NOAH Complex in South Road Properties, Ayala Central Bloc, and Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Over the weekend, the city launched its vaccination 'drive-thru' at NOAH Complex.
Ibones said if given enough supply of COVID-19 vaccines, the city is confident it can inoculate enough number of residents to achieve herd immunity before the year ends.
As of September 5, the city has administered a total of 352,334 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
“We are opening more vaccination centers and as long as there is steady supply of COVID-19, we can definitely have herd immunity by December,” Ibones told reporters.
