4.6-magnitude quake hits Negros Occidental -- Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has detected a magnitude 4.6 earthquake in Negros Occidental on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 5.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was traced at 52 kilometers (km) northwest of City of Sipalay, Negros Occidental at around 5 p.m.

It was initially measured at magnitude 4.9 but Phivolcs later revised it to magnitude 4.6.

The earthquake was "moderately strong" at Intensity IV in Sipalay City.

The tremor was slightly felt at Intensity II in Bago City, Negros Occidental, while it was "scarcely perceptible" at Intensity I in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

Phivolcs' instruments also measured the earthquake at Intensity IV in Sipalay City; Intensity II in Bago City, Negros Occidental; and Intensity I in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental and San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.

Phivolcs said it does not expect damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake.
