Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan visited the construction of the zoo on Friday (Sept. 3).

Domagoso said during his weekly capital report on Friday (Sept. 3) that the city zoo will also have a bulletproof glass which will allow children to have close interaction with the animals.

No trees were cut during the rehabilitation of the city zoo to "respect nature."

Domagoso said the city government made it a priority to “give importance to nature” when the city zoo was being designed for redevelopment in July 2020.

"Iniwasan natin ang pagputol ng puno. Natural lang, hindi natin ginalaw. Isinabay natin sa design. May respeto tayo sa nature (We avoided cutting the trees. We want it to be natural to go along with the design. We have respect for nature)," he said.

The city zoo will also have golf carts for senior citizens.

"May golf carts tayong bibilhin para sa senior citizens na papasyal. Safari design ng golf cart, kasama ang mga apo nila na magda-drive (We purchased golf carts for the senior citizens. It's a safari-designed golf cart which they can ride along with their grandchildren)," Domagoso said.

The city government is also eyeing to make the city zoo a "family-friendly tourist spot" as museums and other attractions in the city will be established.

The redeveloped city zoo is expected to open for public viewing in December.
