DOH reports 20,741 new COVID-19 cases; new record for second highest single-day tally

The Philippines broke again its record for the second highest number of new COVID-19 cases in a day after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 20,741 new infections on Saturday, Sept. 4.

The country's running tally increased to 2,061,084 with 7.6 percent or 157,646 are active cases, the DOH's latest case update stated.

Of the active cases, 94.7 percent have mild symptoms, 1.9 percent are asymptomatic, 0.6 percent are critical cases, 1.2 percent are severe, and 1.60 percent are in moderate condition.

The country's biggest single-day tally was 22,366 last Aug. 30, while the third largest tally was 20,310 which was recorded on Friday, Sept. 3.

Moreover, the death toll also went up to 34,062 after 189 more people died. The death count represents 1.65 percent of the country's total case count.

The recovery count increased by 21,962 to 1,869,376 or 90.7 percent of the case total.

"Paghusayin natin ang pagsunod sa minimum public health standards para sa proteksyon at kapakanan ng ating mga minamahal sa buhay (Let us strictly comply with the minimum public health standards for the protection and welfare of our loved ones)," the DOH said.

"Sa oras na makaramdam ng anumang sintomas, agad na makipag uganayan sa ating BHERTs o sa One COVID Referral Center para sa karampatang gabay (As soon as you feel any symptoms, immediately contact our BHERTs or the One COVID Referral Center for guidance)," it added.
