TACLOBAN CITY – A village watchman shot himself to death in front of his nephew and friend in Brgy. Manlawaan, Tabango, Leyte recently.
Tabango, Leyte Police Chief, Major Ronald Espina identified the victim as Hilario Salino, 52, Brgy. Tanod, and a resident of said town.
Major Espina said Friday (September 3), that they saw the tanod lying on the grass with head wound when they were called to respond to the incident.
Beside the victim's body was a caliber .45 pistol he allegedly used in shooting himself and a picture of a woman.
Major Espina added that based on the statement of the victim's nephew and friend, the victim who looked forlorn arrived at the place while they were drinking coconut water.
His nephew offered his uncle a drink but the victim refused. He then said that he will go to another barangay.
The victim later drew a short firearm, sat on the grass, and shot himself in the head.
This resulted in his instantaneous death.
It was learned that the victim allegedly suffered deep sadness when he was rejected by a girl whom he was courting.
Authorities recovered the caliber .45 pistol loaded with a magazine and five live ammunition, and a picture of the woman whom he reportedly courted.
The victim was brought to Tabango Rural Health Unit for Post-Mortem Examination.
