Vice President Leni Robredo continues to deal with requests from various people to have her 33-year-old daughter Aika Robredo run for public office.
The elder Robredo made this revelation during an online interview Friday, Sept. 3, wherein she shared details of her decision-making process ahead of the May 2022 national elections.
According to the opposition leader, Aika has been wooed “multiple times” to run for a public office. She didn’t mention by whom.
“Si Aika andaming beses na na may nakiusap sa akin na kung pwede siyang kumandidato. Unang-una ayaw niya naman; pagalawa ayoko din (I’ve been approached many times by people asking if Aika could be a candidate. First of all, she doesn’t want to; second, I don’t want that either),” Robredo said.
Robredo said that given a choice, she would always chose to “protect” her children.
“Kasi para sa akin, kung kaya kong i-protect yung anak ko, dun ako. Kung mayroon lang namang iba, wag na siya (For me, if I can protect my child, I’ll chose that. If others can become a candidate, then I’d rather she not do it).
“Ganun naman sila. Kung pwede namang iba, wag na ako (They’re the same with me. If others can do it, then they’d rather not see me do it),” the 56-year-old Robredo said, in the context of her possible run for the presidency next year.
Aika has a master’s degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, just like her late father, former longtime Naga City mayor Jesse Robredo.
She has two sisters, Tricia, 27; and Jillian, 21.
