Teen dies after getting trapped in sand gravel accident

BACOLOD CITY – A 15-year-old boy died after he got stuck in sand gravel that fell from a truck at Barangay Alangilan here on Wednesday.

Police identified the fatality as John Ray Cabalhin of Barangay Felisa here.

Police Capt. John Christopher Masangkay, head of Police Station 5, said that Cabalhin accompanied his 42-year-old father for a delivery of the aggregates, which are granular materials such as sand, gravel, or crushed stone.

However, the truck encountered a mechanical trouble, causing his father to lose control over the vehicle.

Masangkay said the father instructed his son to jump off the vehicle to prevent him from danger.

But when Cabalhin safely got out of the vehicle, he continued chasing the truck, which later fell on its side.

Masangkay said the sand gravel from the truck then fell on Cabalhin, who was running beside the vehicle.

Cabalhin got trapped in the sand and it took about an hour for the rescuers to get him.

Rescuers tried to revive him but he was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. His father was unharmed.

Meanwhile, two separate accidents in San Carlos City and Sagay City in Negros Occidental also claimed three lives in the past three days.
