Jail visitor nabbed for ‘shabu’ hidden in peanut butter in Dumaguete

BACOLOD CITY – A man was arrested on Thursday, September 2, after he tried to sneak in suspected shabu for his friend, who is detained at the Dumaguete City Police Station in Negros Oriental.

Police identified the suspect as Jerry Joseph Mamicpic of Barangay Mangnao.

Police Lt. Col. Joeson Parallag, Dumaguete City police chief, said that Mamicpic brought a plastic bottle of peanut butter and a loaf to a detainee, who was previously arrested for a drug offense.

However, while the items were checked by the duty jail guard, the latter saw something suspicious, prompting him to ask Mamicpic to open the plastic bottle of peanut butter.

Upon checking, the jail guard discovered a sachet of suspected shabu worth P6,800 wrapped in a masking tape, and hidden in the peanut butter.

Parallag said the contraband was subjected to examination.

Parallag said the suspect told the police that he was just asked by someone to bring the peanut butter to the detainee.

Mamicpic is detained at the police station.

In March this year, a woman was also arrested after she allegedly tried to sneak in suspected shabu hidden in rice cakes locally known as “puto” to a detainee at the said police station.
