The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has approved the conduct of voter registration in areas under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
"Comelec En Banc just now approves conduct of registration, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., in areas under MECQ, starting Sept. 6, 2021," Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
"In-mall voter registration will be allowed," he added.
On Tuesday, the National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) said the Comelec should at least extend the voter registration period in areas that were placed under lockdowns.
"We can have selective lockdown. At least we can have them in areas that were under enhanced community quarantine and modified enhanced community quarantine recently," Namfrel Secretary General Eric Alvia said in an online press briefing.
Voter registration activities are only held in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ (MGCQ).
Metro Manila is one of the areas under MECQ from Sept.1 to 7.
