Legarda on Nat'l Heroes Day: We can all be each other's heroes

House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda on Monday, August 30, asked Filipinos to remember the greatness of Philippine heroes who had a vision of a better, progressive, free, and independent nation.

‘’Let us also celebrate our heroes of today who continue to strive for the betterment of our people and our country amid numerous challenges,’’ Legarda said in a statement for the National Heroes Day.

‘’Let us recognize and honor our present-day heroes, those who continue to sacrifice their lives and safety for the welfare of our people. These are our country’s frontliners who have the same quality of selfless devotion and unparalleled contribution to the national cause of keeping this thriving country healthy and strong amid our fight against COVID-19.’’

‘’They are our healthcare professionals and workers, policemen and members of the armed forces, teachers, the utility staff, supermarket staff, food and cargo delivery drivers, fisherfolk and farmers, market vendors, journalists, local and national government employees who continue to courageously perform their duties to provide essential services to our people,’’ she emphasized.

‘’In these trying times, we can all be each other’s heroes. Together, let us work hand in hand to overcome this pandemic victoriously. Let us stand against the injustices still prevailing in our society, even in the present times. Let us stand for the rights of the poor, deprived, and oppressed and fight for the rights of those who could not defend themselves because they have less in life,’’ she said.

‘’We need not die to be called a hero. We can be one just by being faithful stewards of nature and agents of the law, and by being selfless and compassionate to others, especially to the last, the least, the lost, and the forgotten members of the society,’’ she stressed.

‘’I encourage everyone to do their part in shaping our nation’s future. Amid this economic hardship and challenged healthcare system, we can do great things together for national survival, progress, and recovery, not just for us but for the generations to come,’’ she added.
