Newlyweds Rep. Esmael 'Toto' Mangudadatu and beauty queen Sharifa Akeel share love story for first time

Rep. Esmael "Toto" Mangudadatu has apologized to the family of beauty queen Sharifa Akeel for keeping their relationship secret, as he cleared rumors she was a mistress.


"Para sa pamilya ni Sharifa, patawad kung ngayon lang kami lumantad at nagpahayag ng tunay namin na estado. Paumanhin din sa lahat ng nagmamahal kay Sharifa na matagal din naghintay ng kumpirmasyon at kasagutan," said Mangudadatu in a video uploaded by Sharifa on Facebook Aug. 27

"Sana sa pamamagitan nito, ay masagot na ang lahat ng tanong upang makapamuhay na rin kami ng payapa at pribado," he added.

Mangudadatu said: "Naghintay lang kami ng tamang pagkakataon at ito na nga iyun."

"Sa pamilya ni Toto, hinihiling ko sa inyo na sana ay bigyan ninyo ako ng pagkakataon na maipakita at maiparamdam ang tunay na pagmamahal ko kay Toto. Hayaan ninyo akong mahalin siya at alagaan siya sa abot ng aking makakaya," Akeel said.

Despite criticisms thrown at their relationship, Mangudadatu said Akeel did not leave him.

"Yung tapang ni Sharifa pambihira. Sa kabila ng hamon at masasakit na salita na ibinato sa amin, hindi siya sumuko. Hindi niya ako iniwan. Para sa akin yun ang tunay na pagmamahal," said the congressman.

Akeel said: "Sana ay maintidihan ninyo na hindi madali ang lahat ng ito. May mga tao kasi kaming ayaw masaktan, mga relasyong aming iniingatan, at may mga buhay na aming pinapahalagahan."

Mangudadatu also said that Akeel was never a mistress.

"Nais kong linawin na hindi po naging kalaguyo si Sharifa kailanman. Pinakasalan ko siya at buong puso akong naniniwala na tinanggap niya ako bilang isang asawa dahil mahal niya ako at hindi dahil sa aking estado," he said.

Akeel revealed that it was in 2015 when Mangudadatu offered her marriage.

"I was only 18 then, so I immediately said no doon sa mensahero na pinapapunta niya sa bahay," she said.

Aside from her beauty, Mangudadatu said that Akeel has a wonderful heart. "Mabait siya at higit sa lahat, may takot kay Allah."

"Ilang beses ko na rin siya inalok ng kasal," Mangudadatu revealed. "Pero lagi naman niyang tinatanggihan."

Akeel recalled that first time he talked to the phone with Mangudadatu. "Sabi ko tigilan na niya ako at hindi pa ako ready at marami pa akong gustong marating sa buhay." They decided to remain friends.

The former Miss Asia Pacific said that it was in 2016 when they finally met. "Pumunta siya sa lugar namin at kumain kami sa isang simpleng restaurant. First impression napahanga niya ako."

In 2018, a soothsayer approached Akeel to inform that she and the politician will become husband and wife.

Then in 2019, their paths crossed again at the Inaul Fashion Festival.

"Napaka-memorable noon sa akin dahil hinalikan niya ako pero sa cheek lang naman," Akeel said.

Akeel, 24, also said that she really wanted to join Miss Universe Philippines, but decided to marry Mangudadatu.
