PH logs new record for second highest single-day tally of COVID-19 cases at 17,447

The Philippines broke its record for the second highest tally of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in a day after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 17,447 new infections on Friday, Aug. 27.

The previous record was last Aug. 20 as the DOH detected 17,231 cases of COVID-19 then.

Based on the latest case bulletin, the number of active cases or patients still undergoing treatment in the county increased to 142,531.

Of the active cases, 96.2 percent are mild, 1.1 percent are asymptomatic, 0.6 percent are critical, 1.1 percent are severe, and 0.96 percent are in moderate condition.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country since last year is now at 1,916,461.

Ninety percent of the confirmed cases or 1,741,089 have already recovered, including the 6,771 new recoveries reported on Friday, the DOH said.

However, 113 more patients died. This figure pushed the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 32,841 which is equivalent to 1.71 percent of the total case count.

The first time you feel any symptoms related to COVID, please isolate yourself, call your local governments... so that we can cut the transmission in our community),” said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

“Meron na rin tayong bakuna. Kung kayo ay eligible na, magpabakuna na tayo....para tayo ay makalaban sa mga variants na meron tayo sa ating bansa. Gawin po natin ang tungkulin natin bilang isang Pilipino (We also have the vaccine. If you are eligible, let's get vaccinated... .so that we can fight the variants that we have in our country. Let us do our duty as Filipinos),” she added.
