Fully-vaccinated cop, but with 'high comorbidity', dies of COVID


Another policeman died of health complications after being infected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the 100th fatality of the deadly virus in the Philippine National Police (PNP).

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said the latest fatality was a 44-year old police sergeant assigned to the Police Regional Office 1. He died on Sunday morning.

Based on the record of the PNP Health Service, the police sergeant was fully vaccinated but classified as high comorbidity.

“As per his relative, the police officer is undergoing dialysis due to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD),” the report read.

Based on the report, he was on work-from-home status since the start of the pandemic, however, on August 19, he was rushed to a hospital due to difficulty of breathing and was tested positive of the said virus.

As of August 23, the PNP Health Service also recorded 116 recoveries among the infected personnel bringing the total recoveries to 31,492 while 150 new cases were noted bringing the total cases to 33,438 with 1,846 active cases.
